What we hold about your business, and how to make us delete it.
Short version: we took what was already public on the Food Standards Agency's food hygiene register, used it to build you a preview website, and posted you a card. We keep it 90 days, then it's deleted automatically. You can have it gone sooner, no reason needed.
You don't have to give a reason and we won't ask you to reconsider. We keep only the bare minimum needed to make sure we never contact you again.
Delete everything you holdWhere we got your details
From the Food Standards Agency's food hygiene register — the public register every business serving food appears on, published under the Open Government Licence. Your business name, address and the category it is registered under; map coordinates come from OpenStreetMap. We do not hold your phone number or your opening hours. We didn't buy a list, nobody passed your details on, and we haven't taken anything from your Google listing.
Exactly what we hold
We do not hold your food hygiene rating. It is on the same register and we deliberately never copy it — that is yours to display, not ours to repeat. We hold no bank or card details of any kind, because we are not taking payment at this time.
Why we're allowed to
We rely on legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) to build a preview and write to a business at its published trading address about a service relevant to it. It's public business information, used once, for a single purpose, with an easy way to stop it. Where you send us details through a form yourself, we use them to reply to you. You can object at any time — see your rights below.
How long we keep it
From the date on your postcard. Then the preview site and the details behind it are deleted automatically, whether you contact us or not. If you register interest, we keep your details while we're talking to you and delete them if it goes quiet.
Who else processes it
Some of these are outside the UK; transfers rely on the standard safeguards in their terms. We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers — ever.
Your rights
We publish no email address while we're not trading, so every request comes through a form — that's the fastest route to a human either way. Use the removal form for anything on this list; a request costs nothing and we answer within one month, usually the same day.
If we get it wrong
Tell us first and we'll put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk — you don't need our permission and it costs nothing.
